Journaling Day 13
John 13: 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
This is so counter cultural. The story doesn’t go like this:
{John 13: 3 Jesus didn’t know that the Father had put all things under his power, or that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. But then he heard from God and realizing who He really was and how important he was he stopped washing their feet and said “my bad”.}
Knowing full well who he was… wow.
…. 12When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?”
ummmm, no. I have been reading this stuff for decades and still don’t get it. I am proud, I want things my way, I want to be pampered and fussed about and…blah blah blah. Just like in this picture. The center of attention, cared for. I guess I am a bit of a baby.
But…I WANT to be like Jesus. I WANT to put others first. I still struggle -inside. shhh don’t tell.
Jesus, I love the example you set for me such a long time ago. Thank you for loving us fully. Thank you for teaching me to be a servant.
